The thing about blogging is that you and I have to trust each other. You have to trust that I'm not wasting your time (which is a tall order given everything else you could be doing) and I have to trust that you will respect the civility of this site. If you're sick and tired of having every political discussion disintegrate into name-calling and personal insults, then let's make this blog different. By all means, say what you want. Say what you feel. But do it without attacking those who disagree with you.
How? Just focus on attacking the policy rather than the person. Stick to the issues. Don't brand your opponents, debate them. Instead of tossing labels at others (like liberal, conservative, winger, and wacko), pick apart their arguments. It's a real challenge to criticize each other's positions instead of calling each other names but it's worth the extra effort. Just imagine what political campaigns would look like if they were about issues instead of insults. If that seems like an objective worth pursuing, then remember, it all starts with you.
And remember, your comments and guest posts become part of the permanent, historial archive being maintained by The Obama History Project. If you've ever want to do down in history, this is your chance.
Thanks,
